Joana Thackeray is an associate lawyer with Gall Legge Grant & Munroe LLP. Prior to her call to the bar, she was a law clerk for the Honourable Mr. Justice Thomas Cromwell of the Supreme Court of Canada (2009-2010), and for justices at the British Columbia Court of Appeal (2008-2009).

Ms. Thackeray maintains a general litigation practice, with a focus on appellate and judicial review, administrative, constitutional, human rights and employment law.

She has appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada, the British Columbia Court of Appeal, the British Columbia Supreme Court and Provincial Court. She has also appeared before a number of administrative boards and tribunals in British Columbia.

In 2015, Ms. Thackeray joined the Board of West Coast LEAF (Women’s Legal Education & Action Fund).

Ms. Thackeray received her Bachelor of Laws from the University of Victoria where she received various prizes and awards for her academic performance and involvement in the law school community, including the David Strong Leadership in Legal Studies Award, the BLG Prize in Appellate Advocacy, and the FMC Summer Student Research Fellowship to study comparative constitutional law.  She also holds a Bachelor of Arts from McGill University, where she was awarded the Hugh Brock Memorial Entrance Scholarship.
